Shari lewis

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #159691

Shari brings her curiosity about how people got to be where they are, and a wide range of life experience, to her work as a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate, supervised by Kent Campbell, LMFT.

My Areas of Focus

Teens and Young Adults
I especially enjoy working with teens moving into young adulthood. I've provided counseling in a high school setting, working with students on anxiety, academic pressure, identity, family conflict, and the ordinary difficulty of figuring out who you are becoming. Teens often come in reluctantly, and that's fine with me. I'm not in a hurry, and I don't need you to perform. We can start wherever you actually are.

Couples and Relationships
I work with couples on communication, conflict, and reconnection. I have completed Level 1 and Level 2 training in the Gottman Method, an approach built on decades of research into what makes relationships work and what pulls them apart. Some couples come in with children and a shared parenting life to sort out. Some come in without children, working on the relationship itself. Both are good reasons to be here.

Co-Parenting
Parents who are separating, separated, or simply not on the same page still have to raise a child together. I help co-parents lower the temperature, communicate more effectively, and keep the child's needs at the center rather than at the mercy of the conflict between the adults.

Parents and Children Together
I offer family sessions for parents and children who have gotten stuck in a pattern neither one wants. A mother and son who can't get through a conversation without it turning into a fight usually aren't failing at love. They're caught in something older and more automatic than either of them realizes. We can work on that together, and I can also integrate individual and family work when it's useful.

Younger Children
I work with children using play therapy, which meets kids where they actually are developmentally. Children rarely have words for what's bothering them, but they will show you if you know how to watch. I'm available for after-school appointments.

Working Parents and Professionals
I spent many years in a demanding profession while raising two children, so I understand the particular strain of holding a career and a family at the same time, and the guilt that tends to come with both. I relate easily to people navigating high-pressure work, career change, and the question of what all this effort is actually for.

My Therapeutic Approach

My style is strengths-based, integrative, and tailored to each client. I draw on evidence-based modalities including CBT, mindfulness, ACT, and play therapy, and I also work through a psychodynamic lens.

I find that people often want to know how they got to be where they are. Exploring how the past shows up in the present can help you feel less bottled up, more understood, more compassionate toward yourself, and better able to address what's in front of you now. You can start to see the patterns that once helped you cope and now get in your way. That work can happen alongside practical tools that bring more immediate relief, and we'll find the balance that fits you.

Professional Background

I bring a diverse professional and personal background to the therapy room.

Counseling Center: Provided individual therapy to children and adults, conducted psychosocial assessments, and developed and implemented treatment plans using a range of therapeutic modalities.

School-Based Program: Provided mental health services to students at a public high school, including individual counseling with students from a wide range of backgrounds and crisis support as needed.
