Every person is capable of living a fulfilling life. Therapy can be like a key to opening doors that appear locked, or to creating metaphorical bridges overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Counseling has the power to transform how we see the world and our place in it. That kind of perspective shift -- using our thoughts and behaviors in light of our feelings -- can help us make lasting changes the help us and benefit our family members.
I specialize in working with individuals, children, teens, and parents. Many of my trainings the past ten years focus on how to reduce harmful effects of anxiety using particular models that help us "adjust" our relationship with our anxiety. I am known in the community as a therapist who uses cognitive behavioral techniques with children, teens, and adults.
Supporting children and families through gender identity exploration. I have years of experience working with elementary-aged children, teens, and their parents navigating gender identity and self-expression. With children, I combine play therapy and talk therapy to help them understand their own feelings and find language for who they are. With parents, I offer coaching — a space to think through your own questions and feelings, and to figure out how to talk with your child, your co-parent, your extended family, and your child's school. Family Matters is an affirming practice, and I coordinate with the gender clinics at Stanford Children's Health and Kaiser Permanente when families are working with those teams.
Beyond gender identity work, I also help families with broader dynamics — coaching step-parents and parents of children as young as four, and supporting clients of all ages who are working to understand their identity and share it with the people they love.
Clients also call me when they need help overcoming grief from the loss of a loved one, relationship, or other important part of life.
I utilize evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) combined with a warm, therapeutic relationship. I focus on a positive, strength based approach that works toward your goals, whether short or long-term. I hope you will reach out today to take your first steps towards achieving those goals.
